My First Product!

I finished my first buy-able (not a word) product!  It's called the Compound Word Kickoff!  It is a matching game/activity to practice compound words.  Compound words can be one of the more difficult skills because mixed with syllables, students get confused.  They want to break down every word into two parts and call it a compound.  The rule of thumb is when the two words can be separated and make meaning on their own- then it is a compound.

In other news, my best friend, future hubby and I had dinner and drinks tonight.  Afterwards, we ended up at our apartment playing the Wii.  I put together this ridiculous platter of "snacks".  Talk about unprepared!! I have been trying to cut back on buying foods and using everything we have in our pantry before we move
(because who wants to move a bunch of stocked goods?).  Here is my *joke* platter:

Yeah, I put Oreos, Cheez-its and El Fudge cookies on a plate and called it "hostessing".  It got eaten, don't worry.

Well, that is that!

First Product in Process...

I spent today fixing up my blog the best I could by looking up advice on Pinterest.  I am still not 100% satisfied with it but it's definitely an improvement!  Then I started working on my first TPT idea.  It's been so hard to focus on what to create because I don't have a permanent position in any grade just yet.  After this first product, I might just work on some fun and engaging worksheets for various grades that substitutes can keep on hand for those times where we need a back up plan because we all know there are plenty of those.

I also picked up our check for our down payment for our new townHOUSE!  Here is a picture of it:
I am in LOVE!  If all goes as planned, we will be in there in 25 more days!

Well I didn't completely finish my first product but I did work on it a lot today and it will most definitely be ready for presenting tomorrow!  In the meantime, I am uploading a freebie of an old worksheet I made in college.  Very simple and not very imaginative but it's functional.  I found a bunch of worksheets I had made while student teaching before TPT was even a thought!  Instead of just tossing them, I figured I would share.  I uploaded my first worksheet a few months ago (freebie) and I was pretty shocked it's been downloaded a few HUNDRED times!  That's just a wonderful feeling : )  I hope to duplicate that success tenfold.  It doesn't really compare to what others have accomplished but it's not a competition.  It's about helping out fellow teachers who have helped me tremendously!

The Next Chapter

Saturday was my Bridal Shower!  I can't believe it came and went so quickly (which I hear will be the same feeling about the wedding).  It was beautiful! And despite some rain showers, the day was perfection!  Here is a picture of me and my gorgeous bridesmaids:

The wedding is in less than 2 months!  September 21st is the BIG DAY but there are many other BIG DAYS in between then and now.  In less than a month we (Jon and I) will be closing on our very first house together.  We have been living in a teeny tiny 1 bedroom apartment for over a year and cannot wait to spread out in our new townhouse.  Here's the even crazier part--we close on the Friday before school starts! AHH Just thinking about the chaos stresses me out.

I told myself that this summer instead of working I would start blogging and making materials for TPT. Well, here we are--its the end of July and I am just getting started.  I think you'd agree, I have had a lot on my plate so far.  And I have to be honest, it's been tough to get motivated without having anything set up for the beginning of the school year yet.

Now, I don't have an *official* position, yet.  However, I just know SOMETHING will happen between then and now--whether it is a permanent job or a long term substituting situation.  And if, in the off chance, nothing comes up, then I will be back to day-to-day subbing for my 2nd year.

I hope to be back tomorrow to present my first original material I am working on.  I have one freebie posted on TPT but it is something I made about 5 years ago in college and it's not the most aesthetically appealing or elementary school friendly worksheet.  I hope I can fulfill this dream of being a TPT seller and follow in the footsteps of so many amazing teacher/bloggers that I have been silently stalking following for the past school year.
