I did it! I did it! I did it!

After a day of sitting on the couch hard work, I finished my Winter Olympics: Sochi 2014 Pack.  Oh man! I think this is my best work yet! I really hope I get to use this somewhere in some class come February.  CHECK IT OUT!!!

Lots of good stuff here!!

Whew! Now that that is done, what will I do? Well finish up Prefix: Mis and maybe actually be a human and go out and be social? Well it’s not like I am a loner, I do hang out with my lovey! He is just on a different couch playing Madden (not as productive as me, in my opinion) haha!

Oh before I forget, I got to use my Stocking Sleuth Logic Activity while I was subbing for a friend one day (I knew he wouldn’t mind).  While this product didn’t sell once : ( I personally found it successful with those advanced 2nd grade kiddos.  SO it would be perfectly for 3rd and possibly 4th grade.  Well there is always next year, people!

Some groups needed some extra help but then they go it!.

Well I am off to go hang out with some teacher friends which requires leaving my couch and getting a shower.  Have a great night!

Happy Holidays! Hope you are enjoying time with your family, friends and with yourself! Isn’t alone time so nice?  Don’t get me wrong, I love my hubby but I am more productive when he is not around because when he is I just love to relax with him!  He is just so fun and cute! I mean look at that tan!!

So far, we have spent A LOT of time with family and friends.  One of my best friends, and bridesmaids, got engaged the Saturday right before Christmas at her parent’s annual Holiday party.  It was such a happy occasion! Then we spent Christmas Eve day with her, her family, and her new fiancee’s family! They are from Croatia and they made a TON of food.  I’m talking a whole pig, cheeses, meats, side dishes, and dessertsOMG the desserts!

Okay well I could go on and on about Christmas Eve and Christmas Day but I won’t bore you.  Now I am hanging out at home, cleaning, doing laundry and all that fun stuff.  In between, I have been finishing up a packet of resources on Silent Consonants.  Check it out!!

http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Silent-Consonants-Resources-Worksheets-and-a-Game-1031150

This is my first attempt at a “preview”! It includes 2 posters, word lists for g-,k-,w-,.b, and igh- words. There are 3 worksheets and a game called “Go Gnome or Go Home!” (I am pretty proud of that one : )) Oh and 2 assessmentsa quiz and a ticket out the door! Pretty much all you need for a mini-unit on silent consonants!

Can I just stay home for the months of January and February? I will come back out in March when it is time for my b-day ; )  Here’s a peek at two other products I am working on and hoping to have done by the end of break!  I already have the first two days after New Year’s day scheduled so I can’t slack off!

The first is a group of activities to learn about the Winter Olympicsspecifically this year’s in Sochi!

The second is a mini-lesson on the prefix mis-.  It will probably be short and sweet and priced accordingly!

Since I won’t be in any one classroom consistently, I am excited to share these with friends who can use them! Hopefully I will get the opportunity to use my new products at some point during the rest of the school year!

We shall see what 2014 holds!

Happy New Year!!

Back to life, back to reality...

Monday, December 16, 2013
Last night we returned from Mexico after a 7 day escape from the cold, winter {not officially but yes} and LOTs of snow! We missed two big snow storms and lounged, drank and ate in 80+ degree weather.

While it was great to spend time in the sunshine, by day 6 we were both mentally ready to come home.  Kind of weird to be ready to leave the beauty of palm trees, blue skies and even bluer ocean but we were!  We missed our house, cat, family and friends.  And I kept thinking amidst the heat and humidity that in 10 short days it will be CHRISTMAS! I feel like I haven't had time to get into the spirit--we didn't decorate because of vacation and I hadn't done any shopping before we left.

So now, I am resting at home ordering lots and lots of prints of Wedding pics, New Years cards, and Shutterfly books.  Yes, ALL of our family will be getting pictures for Christmas.  I think the year of your wedding is the only time you can really get away with that.  Or when you have a baby?  Not sure of the rules but it definitely makes shopping a little easier this year.

Moving on from personal life, and back into teaching.  Well, since my position ended right before Thanksgiving, I went back to day to day subbing before vacation.  Other than that, I haven't had many any job prospects.  While usually this makes me panic, I am truly relaxed and calm and okay with whatever will happen.  Maybe its the vacation mode, or the approaching holidays but I am at ease with whatever 2014 will bring.  I have been so fortunate this past year, so many amazing things have happened both personally and professionally.  It's really time to just reflect on the year and not stress about what is to come.

With that said, I don't have much to share as far as teaching stuff.  So I will leave you with one more honeymoon picture.

Hello December!! A mish mosh of things...

Monday, December 2, 2013

Well this Thanksgiving break has been both enjoyable and productive! Let me start by recapping last weekWednesday was my LAST day in 2nd grade for the class I have been with since the second week of school.  I will miss them dearly but I am also looking forward to what’s next!  The teacher I was in for came back on Wednesday for a transition day and she had planned a little ice cream party for my send off so that was sweet!

Thanksgiving was spent with my parents AND Mr. Stahl’s side of the family.  It was really awesome to all be together especially considering the alternative.  See, I’ve spent the last 25 Thanksgivings with both sets of grandparents and now that my grandmas are both gone, it would have been pretty lonely.  My grandpas aren’t doing so well themselves and it would have been difficult for them to come to my parents.  All in all it was a wonderful day : )

So I still need to go back to the school I was at just to tie up a few loose ends.  AKA the laptop I had been using for 2 months died and I didn’t get any of my saved work from it.  No worries though, it will be returned tomorrow so I can go get my precious documents off of it.  Once that happens, I will have a lot more pictures to share!
Speaking of Pictures: We received our wedding photos about 3 weeks ago but then life got in the way and I didn't have time to do much with them.  SO I have been putting together books and cards for the holidays.  Here are a few of my favs:

Last but certainly not least, I am dreaming of our vacation (in 5 days!!) to Riveria Maya, Mexico!!!!  But while I wait, I suppose I will keep working on TPT things...Oh and I did manage to make 2 new products.  Here ya go!!

It's November, what!?!

Sunday, November 17, 2013
A month has just flown by.  Here I am, less than 2 weeks left in 2nd grade.  However, tomorrow I have an interview for a permanent position! My first ever permanent position interview...eek!

I'd have to say that Friday was one of my best days with this class.  Maybe it's because I am growing sentimental since my time is coming to an end.  We had our Race for Education on Friday morning.  I knew this would throw off the day but that is nice sometimes, especially on a Friday.  My original Math plans were to make this symmetrical pattern block shape turkey I found on Cara Carroll's blog.

My teammate and I prepped all morning but then decided to save it for the end of next week since it's American Education week.  So I threw some math centers together at the last minute...and they were a HIT {if I do say so myself}.

I will really be missing 2nd grade, however, my departure is bittersweet because just a week after Thanksgiving, Mr. Stahl and I will be traveling to Mexico for our well-deserved overdue honeymoon! What adventures in teaching will be in store for when I return?! Well I am exciting for some down time and to get back into making some TPT products.  Here is one of my more recent ones:

I have been out of the game for a few weeks because I lost, yet again, my grandmother.  Yes, both of my dear grandmother's passed away within 2 months of each other.  This Fall has been such an emotional roller coaster.  I am thankful for my family, our ability to stay strong and honor our loved ones who have passed is remarkable.  I am grateful for my new family.  This holiday season will definitely be different, but it is a new phase of life.  I feel so blessed to have had such wonderful women in my life and I just want to continue to try to make them proud in everything I do. <3
RIP Nana

My favorite teaching moment, so far, this year.

Saturday, October 26, 2013

I may be young and new at this profession but I have an excellent memory.  I remember ever math lesson I taught last year throughout my 3 different long term assignments.

Teaching the same lessons this year is what teaching is all about! I reflect on how things went in the past, and work on teaching it better and more effectively the second time around.

I remember the lessons on Making Change last year. I never really felt the kids "got it".  I didn't feel like I was consistent in my methods and strategies I taught to them. Homework came back with a lot of comments for parents saying how tough this was for their child.  I did not have a clear vision of how their little brains were working and their background knowledge.

This year, I discussed it with my coworkers and one of them broke it down for me and gave me a new tool to use.  While I picked fun of him at first, his help allowed me to teach making change in such a better way!

This year, a lightbulb went off {for me and the kids! }  As I began teaching, I created a chart with a few steps and arrows.  It just seemed to work! The kids got it!

Then we went to do it in our math journals and all was lost.  So I whipped up this worksheet the next day to mirror the chart I was using.  They picked it up again!

I saw so many come back from being confused by our math program {which shall remain nameless}.  If you teach making change, you should definitely check out my new product:

Next up, I need to renovate this blog now that I am not "soon-to-be" Mrs. Stahl although it doesn't quite feel OFFICIAL because my name hasn't OFFICIALLY changed yet.  Why am I waiting? Well getting to the Social Security office when their hours are 8-3 is quite impossible without taking a day off.  The second reason is really great--WE BOOKED OUR HONEYMOON!

Here is a little glimpse at where we will be:

AHH! I am daydreaming way too much.  Since my long term position will be over the day before Thanksgiving, we decided to go December 8th-15th and we could NOT be more excited.  Sorry to make you jealous ; )

I'm WIDE awake!

Saturday, October 12, 2013
It is currently 7:19 am on a Saturday morning.  SATURDAY MORNING! The day I {we} wait for ALL week to sleep in, lay in bed and enjoy freedom from the work week.  Why am I awake? Well that would be a combination of factors.  J had to work this morning because of rain ALL week.  I went to be relatively early for a Friday night.  I am now officially one of those people who "can't" sleep in on non-school days.  I always thought those people were full of it! I actually kind of still think they are because if I had *really* tried to go back to sleep, I probably could have.  But a few things are keeping me wide awake:

1. Life in generally is naturally stimulating right now! It's hard to want to be asleep when you love everything around you SO much when you are up! That sounds ubber corny right now but it is the truth!

2. I am genuinely excited to do work on the weekends.  Not like grade papers, but CREATE new materials for both TPT and my own classroom!  It is kind of addicting, for real.

Okay, so mostly those two things.  SO I am going to get back to working.  Not to say I won't be back to share whatever it is I do work on.  Or that I will be sound asleep upstairs in bed in 1-3 hours.  But that is the beauty of the weekend!

PS. Will be having our very first *dinner* party tonight.  Well, we are having my new brother & sister-in-law over and they have yet to see the house! Post a picture maybe later!

Well hey there!!

Saturday, October 5, 2013
It has been a month since I have updated this and SOOOOO much has happened.  I have been MIA because of the absolute craziness which has been my life.  I have been debating between a reallllly long post or a few short ones.  We will just see how this goes.  I might go out of order.

1.  I GOT MARRIED

It was the most awesome, amazing day with my husband, new family, old family and friends! The rain held out until about 30 seconds after my father-in-law pronounced us husband and wife. We only were able to snap a few pictures before it started to pour {for the rest of the night} but I couldn't be happier with the ones we were able to get!

2.  WE BOUGHT A HOUSE!

I am slacking on some pictures of it right now because it is a bit of a work in progress.  But nevertheless, it is incredible to come home everyday to a place that is your own and spend time with your HUSBAND in your HOUSE! Gosh I love those two H words.

3. TeachersPayTeachers!!

I have not one but TWO products currently for sale in my TPT store.  And what is so EXCITING is I have been using my OWN products in my OWN {kind of} classroom!  My kids keep asking "who is the sassysub?" when I respond "that's ME!" they are always kind of confused.  But this has been a confusing year for them with their teacher out on maternity leave, and me getting married and my name changing.  They have been along the ride for all of my new life adventures.

My first product is all about Singular and Plural Nouns.  It includes 2 reference posters, a sorting activity, two worksheets and a page showing how nouns change from singular to plural.

My second product is all about Proper Nouns.  I guess you could say I have a thing for nouns!  It includes 3 worksheets, 3 center ideas, a sorting activity, and two posters.
                                                            Proper Nouns Common Core Aligned

I haven't snapped any pictures of my kids using my products because we have just been that busy and my mind has been scattered.  But I am slowly settling into this new life and starting to get into a routine.

4.  It hasn't all been rainbows and butterflies...2 weeks before our wedding my grandmother passed away.  She was 89 and it was her time to go but it was still a very difficult time.  In between all the unbelievably great things going on, it was a roller coaster of emotions to watch her pass, mourn her death and then the next day celebrate house settlement.  She has been looking over us for sure and she wouldn't have been able to physically make it to our wedding while here on Earth, so I truly believe she was watching over us that day : ) RIP Mom-mom

So I think I *pretty much* covered all that has been going on in my life.  I vow to make future posts 90% teaching and 10% life instead of what they have been!  Now I am off to do some Saturday errands and spend the day with my hubs
